Financial Assistance

YMCA Calgary believes all Calgarians, of every age and income bracket, should have access to quality health, fitness and community programs that support their health and well-being.

YMCA Calgary provides financial assistance for those who wish to register for membership, programs, or camps, but are not able to afford the full registration fee.

Assistance is partly supported by donations raised through YMCA Calgary's Strong Kids Campaign. It is through the generosity of our donors that all Calgarians can participate in and benefit from a YMCA experience.

If you want to keep active and healthy, but do not have the financial means to pay membership or program fees, you can apply for financial assistance. YMCA Calgary can support you today and help you achieve a healthy tomorrow.

Here are the Steps

  1. Complete the Application Form
  2. Bring your completed application and information to Member Services at the home branch you wish to join.

Please bring one of these benefits card(s):

  • IS: Income Support
  • AISH: Assured Income for the Severely Handicapped
  • ACHB: Alberta Child Health Benefits
  • AAHB: Alberta Adult Health Benefits
  • City Of Calgary Fee Assistance Card
  • Letter from community partnering organizations (contact Member Services for more details)

FAQ

How does the YMCA determine how much I can afford to pay?

The YMCA uses the government's Low Income Cut-Off Chart to determine your eligibility.

Can the YMCA deny my application for membership and/or program assistance?

Your request could be denied if you have not met the minimum facility usage requirements or if your financial information does not identify an inability to pay for the fees.

If I receive assistance from the Opportunity Fund, what is expected of me?

Please keep all information and fees discussed confidential, complete all payments and you must use the facility a minimum of twice a week.

Is it possible to join the YMCA for free?

Everyone must pay some portion of the annual membership/program fee.

How do I renew my membership?

All memberships have an expiry date (up to one year). The YMCA does not remind you when your membership expires. As a member, it is your responsibility to contact Member Services to renew your membership. You must bring in your current income documents to be renewed. Your facility use will be reviewed.
