You deserve a break! YMCA Calgary offers short-term care for infants and children ages six weeks to nine years while their parents/guardians use our facilities. Our child minding caregivers create a fun, safe and comfortable environment for young children. Caregivers apply best practices for healthy child development and integrate play-based learning theory into everything they do. Your child’s time in short-term care is always fun!
Child Minding Online Booking
All Child Minding appointments are booked through your YMCA Portal Account. Appointments can be booked for the following week on the preceding Friday at 11 a.m. All appointments are still two hours long each, with one appointment per day.
All available appointments will be available for booking up to 15 minutes into the current booking session. This will allow families to check on the day they are wishing to use child minding services to see if a last minute, casual appointment is available.
Please note – child minding staff are unable to book or cancel appointments for children. Should you require assistance, please speak with a member of our Customer Service Team or contact our Engagement Centre here.
All users of the YMCA Child Minding area must remain onsite, using facility amenities. Jogging in the immediate vicinity is permitted, providing the parent/guardian has a cell phone on them that remains on.
The Child Minding area may be closed during periods when no advance bookings (both block booking and casual) have been made.
Please drop-off and pick-up your child(ren) on time.

Fees listed are for a 2 hour booking appointment. Fees listed for an individual child will automatically calculate based on YMCA membership status and their age.
Note – Families receiving YMCA financial assistance will have the discounted fee, as per their YMCA financial assistance agreement, automatically applied to their account for child minding. If this is not reflected on your account, please speak with a member of our Customer Service team.

Child Minding may close early due to no bookings.
Check online, using your portal, for an available appointment time(s). You will find available appointments under "Programs and Day Camps" and then "Child Minding" Select the appointment time(s) you want, and then check out and pay. Click here to view a how-to video on booking appointments.
You can cancel your child’s appointment online, without penalty, up to 2 hours prior to their booked time. This action will refund any monies paid to your account as a credit.
Late cancellations and no-shows are non-refundable. Member children under the age of 2 years will be charged a no-show amount of $5.00 if an appointment is unused and not cancelled.
Once an appointment is cancelled online, it will be visible on the portal for another user to book.
Child Minding appointments are limited, pending availability, to three visits per child per week. All child minding appointments are two hours long with all bookings completed through the online portal.
No, we are discontinuing the use of punchcards for appointment bookings. Required payment will be made online in online account portals by users.
Punchcards purchased in 2024, which have a remaining balance, may be redeemed for refund. Please take your punchcard to a Customer Service Desk who will confirm the purchase date and apply a credit to your account for the unused amount on your account to use for YMCA registrations. Your original payment amount will be pro-rated based on used stamps and the remaining balance will be applied as a credit to your account.
If you have YMCA Financial Assistance, and purchased a card in 2024, you are eligible for an account credit based on the balance remaining on your account. The refund will be processed based on the discounted amount you paid.
Yes. Please ensure the financial assistance subsidy has been added to your account. This can be done at Customer Service. Financial assistance for child minding is 50% of the full cost of the service and may be utilized up to 3x/week/child.
Please note – YMCA Financial Assistance is through an application process. Those eligible for financial assistance will receive approval for a defined period of time.
You can cancel up to two hours prior to your appointment without being charged on the app. If it is less than 30 minutes before your appointment, you will have to reach out to a Child Minding staff and they will direct you accordingly.
