Getting a Police Check with Vulnerable Sector Search

Due to the nature of our work, YMCA Calgary requires all employees and volunteers to provide a cleared Police Information Check, including a Vulnerable Sector Search, before beginning service. The check must be dated within 12 months of the start date.

Calgary Police Service and the RCMP will only conduct a Vulnerable Sector Search for individuals applying for roles where they are in a position of trust or authority in relation to a person’s care, including children, youth, older adults and individuals with temporary or permanent disabilities.

This check can be completed through the Calgary Police Service for employees or volunteers living within the City of Calgary, or through the RCMP for those living outside Calgary city limits. YMCA Calgary will cover the associated costs upon receipt of proof of application.

Criminal Youth Record Checks

The RCMP and Calgary Police Service cannot conduct Vulnerable Sector Searches for applicants under the age of 17. Under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, the RCMP may only issue a Criminal Record Check, and the results may only be released to federal, provincial or municipal government organizations.

Please note: When applying for a Vulnerable Sector Search, be sure to indicate that YMCA Calgary positions involve contact with children, youth and vulnerable adults.
