Aquatics
Why a Career in Aquatics
Aquatics offers one of the earliest entry points for youth, with opportunities beginning at age 15. YMCA Calgary provides affordable lifeguard and swim instructor certification options, giving young people the chance to gain valuable experience on deck while building confidence, leadership skills and safety knowledge.
As staff grow in their experience, they can move into Team Lead roles and continue progressing into Aquatics Coordinator or Supervisor positions, supporting operations across our six branches.
Certifications
YMCA Swim Instructor
Build the skills to teach aquatic programs with confidence while supporting participants of all ages in their development. This certification includes online learning, in-class training and shadowing with YMCA Calgary instructors.
National Lifeguard – Pool
Recognized as the lifeguarding standard in Canada, this certification builds the skills, judgment and responsibility needed to supervise aquatic environments safely. It prepares you for the critical role of protecting swimmers and responding to emergencies. Click here to learn more.

Sports, Day Camps and Climbing
Why a Career in Sports, Day Camps and Climbing
Counsellor, young staff gain hands-on experience leading activities, supporting campers and working as part of a dynamic team environment.
With each season, staff can grow into Assistant Coordinator and Coordinator roles. These positions have been the starting point for many of our current leaders in Youth, Sports, Climbing and Day Camps, showing how camp experience can open doors across the association.
