She will also define and review basic biomechanical principles such as the planes of motion to transform basic exercises into Power Pilates.

Meet Our Keynote Speaker
Stan Peake
Stan Peake was born to be a coach. After his playing days were over, he coached football for 10 years, ages 8 to University football players. After football, Stan's first career was in fitness and health, where he spent 18 years coaching athletes, executives and just about anyone else to become a better version of themselves.
Since 2015, Stan has been coaching entrepreneurs and leaders to do the same in the boardroom instead of the weight room. His core message is around developing yourself first, and then being the kind of leader you wish you had.
Based on his combined 39 years of coaching experience in football, fitness, and business. Stan has written 10 books on business and personal development, and his 2021 TEDx talk "Lasting Happiness is an Inside Job" has amassed over 115,000 views.

Scott Andrews
Scott has worked in the fitness industry for over 20 years, both as a nutritional consultant and personal trainer. He is a graduate of the Institute of Holistic Nutrition, Athabasca University, Georgian College and the Manual Osteopathic College of Canada.
In addition to his education & kinesiology background, he has helped many of his clients reach their full potential. In addition to conducting workshops on fitness, weight management and holistic living, Scott runs a manual therapy and nutrition practice and teaches Fitness and Sports Nutrition at The Institute of Holistic Nutrition.
Lisa Axelson
Lisa Axelson has been a fitness instructor since 1996, a YMCA Champion and YMCA Fitness Instructor course conductor & mentor since 2006.
Obtaining a certification in Fusion Fitness was the start of her yoga journey in 2004, and she continued as she practiced Anusara Yoga with Lara Luer until Lara moved to Nova Scotia. Lisa obtained her 200-hour Yoga certification in 2017 and is passionate about offering safe and fun yoga classes at the Chilliwack Y. She educates evaluates and certifiies new YMCA Yoga fitness instructors.
Lisa enjoys sharing the benefits of yoga and is passionate about maintaining a healthy and fulfilling lifestyle.
In 2022, Lisa retired from the Chilliwack Fire Department after a lengthy and fulfilling career as a firefighter, inspector and fire investigator, as well as a sessional instructor for the Justice Institute of British Columbia, where she still conducts courses for the Fire Officer Program.
Michael Barrett
With over 20 years in the field, Dr. Michael Barrett has built his career around a simple idea: neurodivergent individuals experience the world differently, and that difference deserves respect rather than correction.
A Registered Psychologist with a Ph.D. from the University of Alberta, he works with autistic and neurodivergent children, adolescents, adults, and families, helping them navigate everything from sensory challenges to the leap into independent adulthood, always built to encourage thriving in everyday life.
Mary Casey
Mary has been a Fitness Instructor since 1988, a YMCA Champion and YMCA Fitness Instructor course conductor since 2005, specializing in Fitness Theory, Yoga, and Cardio/Strength.
A Fusion Fitness course in 2004 sparked her yoga journey and inspired her mission to help others enhance their wellbeing through mindfulness, movement, and a balanced approach to living. Mary is a high school teacher in Chilliwack, B.C. where she currently teaches Fitness & Conditioning and Mindfulness Movement, which are both programs that she has designed for the school district.
Mary is a highly skilled teacher and uses her knowledge, experience and creativity to find learning pathways for her students and participants.
Judy Cudrak
Judy Cudrak, B.Sc., B.Mgmt., is a YMCA Champion in Group Cycle, Aquatic Fitness, Group Cardio & Strength and Yoga. She is also a Fitness Alberta Trainer Educator in Aquatic Exercise, Group Conditioning, Group Choreography, Group Cycle and Mind Body.
Judy is a Keiser National Trainer, a Fusion instructor, and a certified 200-hour registered Yoga teacher. Judy has been an exercise leader for over 40 years, and brings her passion and love for fitness and yoga to every class and course she teaches.
Michelle Felzmann
For more than 30 years, Michelle Felzmann has been empowering people to transform their lives through health, fitness, and mindset.
As a fitness leader, coach, and founder of Sweat With Good Vibes, she has inspired countless individuals to build strength, confidence, and sustainable healthy habits through dynamic group fitness, online coaching, and community-based programs.
Michelle is passionate about helping people realize that true success is not about perfection. It is about consistency, resilience, and showing up for yourself every day. Known for her engaging energy, authentic approach, and ability to connect with audiences, she motivates people to step outside their comfort zones, embrace lifelong wellness, and unlock their full potential both inside and outside the gym.
Michelle Green
Michelle has been with the YMCA since 2018 and currently serves as the Health & Fitness Supervisor at Brookfield Residential YMCA. A dedicated YMCA Champion, she is passionate about leading group fitness classes and mentoring others to become confident, impactful instructors.
Michelle holds AFLCA and YMCA certifications in Group Strength, Group Cardio, Choreography & Portable Equipment, Aqua Fitness, Group Power, and Group Core. She is especially known for her dynamic Tabata Drumming classes, where she blends her love of fitness with a strong sense of musicality to create high-energy, engaging experiences.
Chester Guieb
Chester's fascination with human strength began over a decade ago when he was first introduced to powerlifting.
In his pursuit of hitting personal bests, he experienced multiple muscle injuries, which necessitated a deeper focus on rehabilitation and recovery. This journey sparked a dedicated interest in anatomy and physiology. By applying a stronger understanding of these fields to his training, he has shifted his focus from purely maximizing numbers to prioritizing longevity in his athletic performance, a perspective he hopes to share with you in this workshop.
Simone Hodgekinson
With more than 30 years of experience in the fitness and wellness industry, Simone is a respected leader, educator and presenter.
As the Fitness Director of a prestigious private club, she oversees a thriving fitness centre, manages 94 group fitness classes per week and leads a dynamic team of Personal Trainers, Gym instructors and Group Fitness Instructors.
With a background in Sports Science and Sports Psychology and previous experience as a lecturer at Hopwood Hall College in the UK, Simone combines scientific knowledge with practical expertise. Although experienced across all areas of fitness, Simone’s true passion is yoga and yoga therapy, where she blends evidence-based practice with mindful movement to help people move and feel their best. An internationally recognized presenter, Simone has worked at conferences around the world, authored training manuals, appeared on television and contributed articles to newspapers and magazines.
Originally from the United Kingdom, she now calls Canada home, where she continues to inspire individuals and fitness professionals through education, movement and a lifelong commitment to health and wellness.
Sue Holtby
Sue Holtby has been inspiring people to move for more than 40 years. She has been a YMCA Group Fitness Instructor since 1983, a Fitness Champion and Y Fitness Instructor Course Conductor since 1991, and a YMCA Educator since 1999.
She certifies Fitness Instructors & Champions and continues to educate and mentor emerging fitness leaders in Cardio & Strength and Cycle. An experienced and motivating course facilitator, workshop presenter, and educator, Sue creates engaging, practical learning experiences through collaboration. She builds participants' confidence, knowledge, and teaching skills, equipping them to apply what they learn immediately.
For decades, Sue was active in the equestrian sport of dressage as a competitor, breeder, trainer, and horse show organizer. She is the co-founder of the all-youth Rising Stars Youth Dressage show & Rising Stars Equitation program, recognized by Equestrian Canada as a dressage youth development program. When she's not teaching, Sue enjoys exploring the trails on her mountain bike!
Heidi Jackson
Heidi Jackson is the Senior Program Manager at Girls Forward Foundation, where she leads the development and delivery of impactful sport and education programs that empower girls across Canada.
With 18 years of experience in the sports sector, Heidi has dedicated her career to creating meaningful opportunities that help young people build confidence, leadership, and lifelong connections through physical activity. Holding a background in Exercise Science and Kinesiology, Heidi spent a decade teaching at the university level while working closely with varsity athletes to support their development both on and off the field. Today, she combines her experience in higher education, sport leadership, and program management to help expand Girls Forward's national reach and create inclusive, evidence-informed experiences for girls and young women.
Outside of work, Heidi is happiest outdoors, whether she's exploring the mountains around her home in Revelstoke, British Columbia, spending time with her dog, Walter, or returning to Alberta to help on her family's farm. Tyson is a CSEP High Performance Specialist, FRC Mobility Specialist, 200hr Yoga Instructor and friend of all things fitness.
Tyson has been a leader in the fitness industry for 15+ years, and has led or co-facilitated over 500hrs of fitness leadership courses. Sarah Percival
Sarah Percival is a PhD candidate at UBC Okanagan researching health behaviour change, diabetes prevention, and implementation science.
After more than 15 years working as a personal trainer in England, Sarah became interested in the science behind why people change and how coaches and programs can better support lasting lifestyle change.
Through the Small Steps for Big Changes diabetes prevention program, Sarah has worked as both a coach and researcher, partnering with YMCA teams to adapt and sustain person-centred behaviour change support across community settings in Canada.
Jessica Power Cyr
M.Sc., B.Sc.Kin. CSEP-CEP, CSEP-CPT IE, ACSM-CEP, AFLCA Trainer, 200-YTT, FMS Level 2. Jess is a fitness and mind-body coach, leading industry educator, programmer and public speaker.
Jessica brings a wealth of information, charisma and personality to each session, making them fun and easy to learn from. You’ll never walk away bored from one of her sessions, and you may learn something new or change your perspective on something old.
Jess is fortunate to be working closely with industry leaders at Mount Royal University, University of Calgary, Fitness Alberta and the Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology to provide you with industry trends that are safe and effective. Get ready to “Get Powered Up!” in one of Jess’s sessions!
Rebecca Reitsma
Rebecca Reitsma is a PhD student at UBC Okanagan researching health behaviour change, diabetes prevention, and implementation science. With a background in competitive golf and volleyball, Rebecca's experiences in sport sparked her interest in physical activity and the factors that support people in making lasting behaviour changes.
A personal interest in motivational interviewing led Rebecca to begin working in research at UBC Okanagan and ultimately to the Small Steps for Big Changes diabetes prevention program.
Rebecca has worked as a Small Steps for Big Changes coach and is trained in motivational interviewing through the Centre for Collaboration, Motivation, and Innovation. Her PhD research focuses on the implementation of Small Steps for Big Changes and how community-based programs can be effectively supported and sustained in real-world settings.
Wayne Russell
A lifetime of physical activities and over 3 years of working at the YMCA have taught Wayne how important fitness is to living your best life. He recently started studying the Art and Science of Longevity, and this, combined with his Personal Training experience, has inspired Wayne to teach others about Longevity as well. It’s not about adding years to your life, it’s about adding life to your years!
Heather Scherer
Heather Scherer has been involved in the world of water-based fitness for over twenty-five years.
From Surf Lifesaving, teaching swimming lessons, teaching aqua fitness classes, to opening her own aquatic fitness business combining her personal training skills with her water knowledge. There aren't many days when you won't find Heather in or near the water - her nickname with a professional rugby team in New Zealand was the 'Water Dragon'.
Heather has a wealth of knowledge when it comes to the different properties of water and how they apply to exercising in the water. Heather has a passion for sharing with her participants the numerous benefits of exercising in an aquatic environment in order to help them move better and feel better.
As a Y Canada Educator in Fitness, Aquatics, and Membership, Heather loves nothing more than inspiring others to try something new.
Helen Vanderburg
Founder and co-owner of The ACADEMY fitness, yoga, spin studio, and author of Fusion Workouts. Helen is one of the most celebrated fitness personalities in the global fitness community today.
She has been recognized numerous times as Canada's top fitness educator by CanFitPro, the largest Canadian fitness association, and is the 2018 Lifetime Achievement Award recipient. She has been awarded the IDEA Program Director, Fitness Presenter of the Year, and the 2018 Global Top Industry Contributor. Helen's passion for fitness, health, and wellness has been recognized as one of Canada's most influential people and honoured with the Women of Vision award. She is the recipient of many industry awards and is an elite athlete as a former World Champion synchronized swimmer and honoured member of the Sports Hall of Fame. She has educated fitness leaders globally for the past 25 years in over 25 countries.
Helen is the Commercial Fitness Education Manager for Balanced Body and has consulted for international fitness companies such as NIKE, Total Gym, BOSU, Hedstrom Fitness, Schwinn Cycling, and Core Health and Fitness, to name a few.
Lorelei Waters
Lorelei has a degree in psychology and worked in child welfare for 13 years before entering the fitness industry in 2008. She launched into the fitness industry as a fitness instructor and personal trainer in Lethbridge, Alberta, and has not looked back.
She started her career with YMCA Calgary as a volunteer instructor in 2018 and has worked within a variety of Health & Fitness positions, leading her to her current role as the Health & Fitness Training Specialist. In this role, as a YMCA Educator with designations in Group Strength, Group Cycle, Aquatic Fitness, Yoga, and Personal Training, Menopause Coaching, Pre & Post Natal and Nutrition.
Lorelei organizes and teaches Fitness Leadership courses and Continuing Education workshops for YMCA Calgary. Committed to the growth of the YMCA Fitness Instructor community, she inspires new instructors, guiding them through the YMCA Canada Instructor Certification process.
