What should I expect at Day Camp?

YMCA Camp Riveredge offers outdoor Day Camps in the heart of Calgary. Our site is located at Sandy Beach Park along the Elbow River. Campers spend their days outdoors, exploring the natural world, making new friends and participating in camp activities.
Examples of camp activities: archery, group challenge course, bouldering cube, low ropes course, gaga ball, fire-building, arts and crafts, large group games, quiet activities in the shade, and campfire songs and skits. Campers may participate in water activities during their session including water games to get wet on a hot day and wading in a shallow and sheltered spot of the Elbow River. Groups venture into other parks and playgrounds for a day-hike at some point during their time at YMCA Camp Riveredge.

Hummingbirds 6-7Y | 1-week
Hummingbird Day Camps are designed to introduce your camper to the wonder and excitement that is Camp Riveredge! Hummingbird campers will experience the outdoors while learning new games and discovering the natural world through play.

Falcons 10-11Y | 1- or 2-weeks
Falcons will have many adventures during their session. Campers get an introduction to leadership through activities, games, and fire-building. Those in a two-week program have the option of an overnight stay in one of our on-site tipis (dinner and breakfast provided by YMCA Camp Riveredge).

Hawks 8-9Y | 1-week
Hawks campers will have fun discovering Camp Riveredge and their outdoor environment through nature-based activities and games. They can make mud pies in our outdoor kitchen and head out on urban hikes to explore other nearby parks.

Eagles 12-13Y | 1- or 2-weeks
Eagles campers will explore some off-site activities at Sandy Beach Park and along city pathways. They will develop their leadership skills by playing games with younger groups and publishing the weekly Riveredge newspaper. Those in a two-week program have the option of an overnight stay in one of our one-site tipis (dinner and breakfast provided by YMCA Camp Riveredge).

Bike Camps 8-9Y | 1-week
Bike Camps 10-11Y | 1-week
Campers in the bike option will participate in regular camp activities as well as have time each day to practice biking skills. Participants need to bring their own bike in good repair and CSA approved helmet. Bike campers should be confident in riding a regular pedal bike (without training wheels).

Osprey 14-15Y | 2-weeks
Osprey campers focus on teamwork and leadership during their time at camp. They will participate in camp activities and start leading parts of activities and games for younger groups. Ospreys will go off-site to hike to other nearby parks. These campers have the option of an overnight stay in one of our on-site tipis (dinner and breakfast provided by YMCA Camp Riveredge).
