YMCA Calgary Overnight Camps Update – March 8, 2022

As government protections ease, YMCA Calgary will continue to follow public health guidance and industry best practices to prepare kids and families for a successful Summer at Camp Chief Hector.

One of the best ways to protect campers and to reduce spread is to ensure proper health screening in advance. This includes the ability to postpone or cancel registrations any time before camp if your child is sick, and the requirement of a negative rapid antigen COVID-19 conducted by an authorized health care professional up to 72 hours prior to attending an overnight camp. COVID-19 vaccinations will no longer be mandatory for overnight camps.

Throughout the pandemic, YMCA Calgary has met or exceeded public health guidance where possible to help keep our community safe and we have invested in enhanced cleaning and additional layers of protective measures and processes that reinforce our long-term commitment to health and safety in our spaces. This includes health screening of all visitors to camp, vaccination protocols for YMCA staff and volunteers, social distancing and a reduction of large indoor gatherings, and kitchen, mealtime, lodge, and sleep guidelines to ensure everyone’s safety.

YMCA Calgary also adheres to the Alberta Camping Association, Government of Alberta, and YMCA National Camping guidelines.
