YMCA Calgary is proud to announce YMCArts Presents 2023 Season, featuring four exciting performances that will take place throughout 2023 at YMCA’s state of the art theatres in Rocky Ridge and Seton.
The YMCArts 2023 Season is full of possibilities for everyone to enjoy LIVE theatre, and to LIVE their own creative possibilities.
In March, audiences can enjoy the Festival of Animated Objects in "The Kitty Cabaret" featuring Peter and the Wolf and Mask Tales, a family-focused puppet show. In May, the Heebee-jeebees will bring their unique comical A capella style of music to the stage in an adult only event which will see the YMCA transform into a jazz club. October brings Inside Out Theatre’s "Most Imaginary Worlds", a play created by artists with disabilities, inspired by children with disabilities. And lastly, and in December, Bach Tots ‘fuss-friendly’ and toddler-focused "Nutcracker (in a Nutshell)" rounds out the season.
“As Calgary continues to expand, YMCA Calgary is committed to making arts and culture available to all,” said Dean Paddock, Vice President, Community Engagement, YMCA Calgary. “In addition to the live performance season, we offer art classes & camps at all YMCA locations throughout the year and provide art classes for seniors through our partnership with Silvera for Seniors.”
YMCA Calgary is also working to address the shortage of technical theatre staff in Calgary by providing opportunities for students from Joane Cardinal-Schubert High School to gain valuable experience in this unique trade. This technician’s training partnership provides the students access to our state-of-the-art theatre and performances to develop their skills, and this week, the students will be providing the technical support for the season launch.
