Discover the Magic of Live Theatre with Radio Silence

Family consisting of a dad and twin daughters wearing masks
February 24, 2026

This March, we invite you to experience Radio Silence, a family-friendly live theatre experience that can be enjoyed close to home.

Co-presented with the Festival of Animated Objects, Radio Silence is a fictional tale set in Dawson City, Yukon, in the 1920s, on the traditional territory of the Tr’ondek Hwech’in. When the Yukon’s first female bush pilot goes missing, her twin sister begins a journey to find her. Featuring signature masks by Wonderheads, along with original Yukon music and puppetry, this story creates an immersive and welcoming experience to live theatre for families. At its heart, Radio Silence is a funny and heartwarming northern story that invites people of all ages to slow down and experience the journey together.

Created by Open Pit Theatre in collaboration with Wonderheads, Radio Silence is the result of artists coming together across regions. Canadian designers travelled north to work alongside Yukon visual artists, composers, and performers, creating a show that is uniquely Canadian and unlike anything else on stage.

We're bringing this story closer to home by presenting performances at Shane Homes YMCA at Rocky Ridge and Brookfield Residential YMCA at Seton. Families in the northwest and southeast can enjoy high-quality live theatre without having to travel downtown. With free, convenient parking and tickets priced at $20 for YMCA members and $23 for non-members, it’s easy to plan a night out with friends and family.

More than just a show, Radio Silence is an opportunity to connect. Live theatre invites us to share laughter and wonder together, creating moments that spark conversation and leave us feeling inspired. In fact, 80 percent of Albertans say that experiencing the arts has a positive impact on their community. By bringing performances like this into suburban spaces, YMCA Arts helps make these shared experiences accessible to everyone.

Whether you’re bringing your kids, meeting friends, or looking for an affordable way to enjoy live theatre, Radio Silence is a chance to wander through Yukon’s wilderness and experience a story full of heart and humour.
