Congratulations to Our Team Canada Athletes!
A Huge Achievement on an International Stage
The Orange Cup is one of the largest international lifesaving sport competitions and serves as the national championship for Dutch athletes. Over multiple days of competition, athletes competed in demanding rescue-based events, including obstacle swims, manikin carries, rescue events and line throws. Each event requires strength, speed, teamwork, and real-life lifesaving skills.
At this year's Orange Cup, YMCA Guardians had the opportunity to compete in the international competition, a monumental opportunity for these young athletes. Kingston Falkenberg joined the YMCA Guardians in 2024 and quickly showed talent and determination. Over two seasons of consistent training, he earned his place on Team Canada. Corbin Gilbert and Rylee Bashow, with their additional competitive experience, also secured their positions through continued effort and skill development. Together, they proudly represented both Team Canada and YMCA Calgary on the international stage.
This experience was unforgettable, challenging the athletes both physically and mentally while showcasing their love and dedication for the sport. Reflecting on the opportunity, Corbin shared, “The most meaningful part of this event was being chosen to represent Canada in a sport I love. Getting to bond with an incredible team and compete against other countries in the Netherlands made it truly special.”
Congratulations, Guardians!
Congratulations to Kingston Falkenberg, Corbin Gilbert, and Rylee Bashow on this incredible accomplishment. Representing Canada on an international stage is no small feat, and our entire YMCA Calgary community could not be prouder of the dedication, perseverance, and heart they bring to the sport!
