What does this role look like at YMCA Calgary?
¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬Climbing Wall Floor Volunteer

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Greet participants at beginning of class or open climb.
• Ensure access to climbing wall is limited to approved participants.
• Ensure all participants have completed waiver forms; check for filed waiver forms; assist in the completion of waiver forms.
• Actively monitor and circulate Climbing Wall floor to ensure that participants are standing a safe distance from active routes.

Climbing Wall Route Volunteer

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Assist participants in sizing and fitting climbing harnesses; check harnesses prior to climbing.
• Check participant clothing / attire for appropriateness, including jewelry, closed toed shoes.
• Check auto-belay clip-to-harness prior to participant use.
• Instruct participants in auto-belay descents; perform a descent check at marked line on first use by all climbers.
• Supervise bouldering activities, ensuring that participants are not climbing above or below one another, or climbing above marked line.

Volunteer Commitment and Privileges
• Upon completion of a period determined by YMCA Calgary, volunteers are eligible for a citywide YMCA general membership. To continue, volunteers must volunteer a minimum of 1.5 hours per week.
