YMCA offers a variety of youth leadership opportunities that develop life skills training, education enrichment, health and wellness, recreation and international awareness. These lifelong skills can be applied in their communities now and in the future.
YMCA Leaders in Training
Youth in Grades 7 to 9 learn about community service, philanthropy, volunteerism and health and wellness as they plan and implement projects to help their communities. Here youth get a chance to develop leadership skills and belong to a group of other positive, like-minded young people. There is no fee to participate in this program. Each YMCA Health & Wellness location offers this program; contact the location nearest you for details.
YMCA Kids in Motion
Kids in Motion is a summer volunteer program for young people ages nine to 12. Participants volunteer in meaningful projects in their local community and in return receive the opportunity to enjoy fun recreational activities. The values, lesson and opportunities youth gain from this program are invaluable as they learn to work as a team and share pride in a job well done. They learn they can make a positive contribution to their community, which in turn helps to develop lifelong leadership skills.
Youth who qualify live in their local Kids in Motion community, are not registered in any other summer programs, are able to commit to the program for at least one month during the summer (either July or August), and are willing to experience fun, meaningful projects and recreational activities. There is no fee to participate in this program.
YMCA Kids in Motion Food Drive
Each year, YMCA kids and youth collects thousands of pounds of food donations in multiple Calgary communities for the Calgary Food Bank. Over the past 19 years, YMCA Calgary program and camp participants have helped collect over 200,000 lbs of food!
