YMAP Summer Leaders Fundraising

The competition has begun between this year’s two YMAP Summer Leaders fundraising teams. The students have already started putting their knowledge and fundraising plans into action and the race is close.

Teams met with representatives from both organizations to have a better understanding of what they do and what values they stand for. This further inspired the students’ passion for the cause. They also had the opportunity to discuss the concepts of commitment, persistence, passion and positivity with Vince Aliberti a motivational speaker, and Tanya Koshowski from Brown Bagging for Kids.

The group fundraising for Woods Homes made an excellent presentation to a representative from TAQA. In return TAQA handed the students a cheque for $5,000 to support the YMAP program. What an amazing experience for these young leaders. The group fundraising for the SPCA will be presenting to PennWest next week. We wish them the best of luck.

Students will begin volunteering today helping with the Community Clean up at the Calgary Drop-in and Rehabilitation center. Other volunteer placements will include helping with the YMCA Kids in Motion Food Drive and volunteering with Brown Bagging for Kids.

Students had the opportunity to explore the new Devonian Gardens set up last week; did you know that the original gardens were open in 1977? In the following weeks the students will explore the Calgary Zoo, meeting with the funds development team, as well as the Calgary Glenbow Museum for a guided tour of the Mavericks exhibition.

If you would like to support the students’ fundraising they will be at the Eau Claire and Shawnessy YMCA Tuesday Aug. 14th, 2012 to catch the afternoon crowds.
