Spring into action!

Break out of winter and get active  –  that’s the message from YMCA Vice President Health and Wellness Shannon Doram.

And there’s plenty to look forward to! YMCA Calgary has launched its new program guides for spring and summer so now’s the time to get up, get out and get active!

Shannon says: “It is a good time of year for people to start thinking about being outside and being active. People are starting to shake off the winter indoor blues and get outside. Walking to work, cycling to work, going for a walk with colleagues – just get out and enjoy!”

If you are looking to get yourself in shape ready for summer outdoor pursuits, then look no further than the Y! There are a variety of programmes to help you get fit and get outside. The Y is also getting ready for the busy spring and summer months where children and youth can get  involved in daily, weekly activities.

As the Y gears up for summer, Healthy Kids Day, on June 3, aims to get families involved too. The nationwide event will be run from 10am-1pm and grants free access to all YMCA facilities to families. Also on June 3 Camp Chief Hector YMCA hosts its annual Family Fun Run with BBQ afterwards, where all proceeds will go towards the YMCA Strong Kids.

As for Shannon, she’s looking forward to getting her bike back out on the road. She said: “I’ll be getting my bike tuned up, cycling round the city and up into the mountains as well.”
