LINC Multicultural Celebration Success!

Hopefully you had a chance to attend the YMCA North LINC Multicultural Celebration on Wednesday (March 21) at the Genesis Centre of Community Wellness.

(We tweeted about it the morning of the event so you could come join… Are you following YMCA Calgary on Twitter yet? @YMCA_Calgary)

There were amazing displays by YMCA LINC students filled with books, photographs, videos, crafts, ornaments, writings and more! Students were on hand to talk about their homelands, including India, Pakistan, the Philippines, Cameroon and others. What a wonderful way to learn and share about our beautiful world!

YMCA Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada (LINC)

YMCA Calgary offers English classes for newcomers to Canada. LINC helps immigrants and refugees have a smooth and successful transition into Canadian society and culture. Participants learn language skills so they can feel comfortable with the activities of daily Canadian life, become more employable and feel like they are welcome and belong. There is no fee to participate in this program. For more information, contact the YMCA LINC Administrator at 403-537-2714.

YMCA LINC-to-Work

LINC-to-Work is an Enhanced Language Training (ELT) program that combines English language instruction with general workforce preparation for newcomers to Canada. The program targets newcomers with Canadian language Benchmarks 2, 3, 4 and 5. Workplace culture (including the social aspects of work) is a main focus of the program so participants can gain confidence and can better understand how to act and react in a Canadian work environment. During the program, participants will obtain either a volunteer or paid work placement to practice the skills they have learned in the program. There is no fee to participate in this program. For more information, contact YMCA LINC-to-Work Administrative Assistant at 403-313-3152.
