On April 22nd, LINC classes celebrated Earth Day by talking about ways we can help keep our planet healthy, such as recycling, conserving water, and properly disposing of garbage. The students were inspired by thinking about the little things we can do every day to help the environment.
Later that day, several classes worked together to clean up litter in the parking lot and lawn of the Genesis Centre. Of course, the recyclables were kept separate from the garbage!
Afterwards, the students reflected on the activity and shared what they had learned.
“I was surprised to learn about 10,000 landfills in Canada. Now, I am more eco-conscious. If we do not care for the environment, we can’t breathe or grow plants.” – Harpreet B.
“There are little things we can do every day to help reduce the harmful impact on the environment. Pay attention to how I can use less water. We can save energy by changing the bulbs, make my home more energy efficient. Turn off lights and unplug appliances when we’re not using them. It only takes a second.” –Mandeep
“If we have any lighters, car batteries, oil, or other hazardous material, then visit calgary.ca/waste to find drop-off locations. If I don’t care for environment, then next few years my landfill is filled with garbage, and we can’t take fresh air.” – Amandeep K.
Thanks for setting a great example, LINC! Keep up the good work. The Earth will say, “Thank You!” 🙂
