Join the YMCA family for summer fun!

Summertime is a perfect time for the YMCA Calgary family to think about some of the families which use its facilities and encourage them to come on in.

VP for children and youth Tanis Cochrane said there were many opportunities for families to get involved, especially now warmer weather has arrived.

This weekend, for example, YMCAs across the country will play host to Healthy Kids Day. On Sunday, from 10am-1pm there will be free access to each YMCA Calgary branch where a variety of different activities will be available. Included in some of the activities will be a community resource fair – families are encouraged to go along and find out what services and agencies are available to them in their areas. As well as learning more about what’s in their community families will be able to try their hand at some of the sports and activities on offer at the Y and perhaps have a go at something new.

Tanis added: “Family is the focus of so many things we do here at the Y. It’s important to support the communities we serve and offer opportunities for families to come together for different kinds of activities and most importantly – fun!”

Also on Sunday there will be a fun run held at Camp Chief Hector. The run is the perfect opportunity for families to get together and have some active fun. There will be three distances run on the day – 1K for the youngsters and then 5K and 10K for the more accomplished runners.

There is a small registration fee to take part but this does include a BBQ lunch. The run gives participants the chance to raise funds for the Strong Kids campaign in the breathtaking setting of the Rocky Mountains. Why not get involved?
