Fashion Design Help Students Grow Cultural Pride

In an article on The Star website, writer Jeanne Beker looks at how a former teacher now reaches out to kids through fashion design. A recent project had her working with some Aboriginal youth:

“Earlier this year, First Nation designer D’Arcy Moses, travelled to the Webequie, a northern Aboriginal community 500 kilometres north of Thunder Bay to work with a group of students enthralled by fashion. Moses helped them design and create a collection of vests — exquisitely crafted garments that reflected their native heritage, each one a testament to the intense pride these kids have in their cultural history.”
