Eau Claire YMCA Swim Club at the Canadian Masters Swim Championships

Recent Volunteer of the Year Award recipient, Carli Tyson, and the Eau Claire swim club recently participated in the Canadian Masters Swim Championships in Montreal. The event was hosted by Masters Swimming Canada and was open to all Canadian and International registered Masters level swimmers.

The Eau Claire YMCA swim club sent 6 members to the competition; Steven Ritchie, Derek Brandschwei, Dave de Vlieger, Stuart Dalgleish, Steve Milchak and Carli Tyson. About 900 swimmers of all different ages and abilities participated in the competition, including a few former Olympians, but the Eau Claire swim club quickly rose to the top of the leader boards.

The team brought home 13 individual medals (3 gold, 5 silver & 5 bronze) and two of their relays placed in the top 3 with another 15 individual swims placing in the top 8.  In addition, they had 5 individual swims that placed in the top 10 overall.  Last, but definitely not least, the club placed 3rd overall in the Small Team Category, which included a total of 98 teams from across the country!

When asked what this success meant to the swim club, Carli said, “It just motivated me to want to volunteer more.  It was great to see our little program have such great results”.

We would like to congratulate Carli and the rest of the Eau Claire YMCA swim club on all their success. Your efforts and work ethic truly embody the YMCA values!
