Critical Water Supply Alert

Critical Water Supply Alert

Updated as of: June 13, 2024 at 9:58 AM MST

The City of Calgary has issued a critical water supply alert to limit non-essential water use, including the use of showers. As a result of these measures, there is no access to our pools and arenas, and we are limiting non-essential water where possible. This includes: all pools, steam rooms, hot tubs, and non-essential water use. We will continue to work with our partners at the City and CEMA and will provide additional updates on operational impacts as they develop.

Please refer to the City of Calgary emergency alert for more information, and we will provide facility updates here as they come.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Frequently Asked Questions

In response to the request to limit non-essential usage, we have closed all arenas and pools at this time. We ask that facility and program users limit shower usage, in line with the guidance provided by the City of Calgary.

Pools and arenas remain closed, including hot tubs, steam rooms, and all aquatic amenities. Showers are not closed, but we encourage limited use. Towel service is not available at facilities with Plus Locker Rooms. All other program areas and facilities remain open, and potable water and drinking fountains remain available at all locations, including all childcare centres.

Swim lessons are cancelled until Tuesday June 18, as are all aquatic fitness classes. Credits will be automatically applied to those affected. Updates for Tuesday will be provided by Monday at 5:00 p.m. All other (dry) programming remains in place, with no further disruption anticipated.

Camp Chief Hector YMCA is not impacted by this situation and uses a local water source. YMCA Camp Riveredge remains open for programming and has a drinking water supply available to users.

We have been in contact with all user groups to notify them that the arena and pools remain closed. Please contact your user group directly. Other facility rentals remain unchanged.

Our teams are working hard to limit all non-essential water usage, including cancelling any irrigation, delaying non-essential maintenance projects, taking steam and ice plants offline, and delaying scheduled pool backwashes.

All Sport One Day activities will continue as planned at our participating YMCA Calgary locations (Brookfield Residential YMCA at Seton and Saddletowne YMCA), with the exception of all aquatic and arena activities which have been cancelled.
