Bob’s Ride Across Canada for Strong Kids

Bob’s Story

I made the decision to ride across Canada in stages beginning March 1, 2013.  I will only quit due to either physical or mental injury enroute but I believe sincerely that I can do it.

When I told my dear wife, Val, she said point blank “You’re nuts!!” while shaking her finger at me. When I told friends, they asked what charity I was riding for and I said I had not found one yet, but I’m so pleased to announce that I will be riding for Strong Kids, a YMCA program providing opportunities for local kids.

On May 7, my road bike, one wheeled Yak Bob trailer got on the ferry from Nanaimo to Horseshoe Bay (Vancouver). I dipped each of the 3 tires in the Pacific and headed for Calgary.  At the end of day 10 I was in Lake Louise, and very sore – there were mountains and passes out West!!  Val picked up me and my equipment the next morning and we headed to Windermere for the weekend.

I will be doing a few single day rides proceeding East from Lake Louise before starting again, and then the plan is;

About July 9 for about 4 weeks

August 17 for about 4 weeks

And again about September 28 for a month, ending in St. Johns, Nova Scotia

Donations

If you are interested in supporting both me and this worthy charity, please contact Danielle Phillips at YMCA Calgary – dphillip@calgary.ymca.ca or 403-781-1665 and she can help you with your donation.  Every penny counts …. and at the YMCA, every dollar given goes directly to assist the kids into programs to help them
feel safe and that they have a place to belong.
