Meet Bella Noel, Saddletowne YMCA’s Adult Volunteer of the Year!
What is your volunteer role at YMCA?
My role is at the front desk. The shift starts at approximately 4PM and ends at 6PM. It is very busy 99% of the time. Lots of kids and parents show up to swimming lessons and lots of members including out of town.
What do you like about volunteering at YMCA?
I get to contribute to the community and hopefully make a difference.
How long have you been involved at the YMCA?
I have been involved at the YMCA for 8 years as a member.
Why did you choose to volunteer at YMCA over another organization?
My husband has been a YMCA member for many years and he introduced me to the YMCA.
Why are you a volunteer?
When I immigrated to Canada over 30 years ago I didn’t speak English very well. I felt I should give back to the community especially with all the immigrants around the Y. I can totally relate to all the immigrants from all over the world and hope they are pleased with my work at the Y.
How did you feel when you found out you were Volunteer of the Year?
I cried and was in a total shock.
Do you have a YMCA story?
At the YMCA I met very interesting people and a life long friend named Roberta. I also convinced her for a year to volunteer and she finally started a few months ago and we work the same shift and do a fantastic job together.
