Our contracts run seasonally and there are a wide variety of opportunities available at our site. Our pay scale runs from $200 - $300 a week for counselling and resource staff and is based on previous experiences and qualifications. Section Director, Coordinator and Health Care staff wages are based on the years of experience that they have in their field. ECOSchool Counsellor - Hiring for fall 2010 begins in early May
ECOSchool is a four-day program for Grade Five and Six students that focuses on the development of environmental awareness and community building in an outdoor setting. Student learning is experiential, active and fun. Counsellors help students use maps to explore the forests on a day hike, examine various tree species, play the animal game, identify constellations and communicate through drumming and drama. Counsellors are responsible for the supervision, care and support of students during the day and overnight. A Standard First Aid and CPR 'C' certification is required.

Hector Spring School or Sunship Earth Counsellor - FULL FOR SPRING 2010
Counsellors for both of these programs work with students in Grades 5 and 6 who come to camp with their schools. Both programs include games and initiatives, exploring the natural area around camp, and taking care of the students during the day and at night while they are at camp. These counsellors are required to have a Standard First Aid and CPR 'C' certification. Hector Spring School and Sunship Earth contracts run from April 26th - June 12th, 2010.

ROPES Counsellor - FULL FOR SPRING 2010
The ROPES program focuses on developing leadership and teamwork skills in the outdoors. Counsellors facilitate this through activities such as team-building initiatives, elements at the high ropes course, hiking, canoeing, and working with horses. These staff members must have a Wilderness First Aid (minimum 24 hour course) and CPR 'C' certification. ROPES Counsellor contracts run from April 26th - June 12th, 2010.

Kitchen Staff Positions
Camp Chief Hector YMCA is looking to fill a variety of positions in our food services department. Kitchen staff help cooks to prepare food, bake, clean work stations and serve three meals per day to groups ranging from 100 - 600 people. Bowfort Counsellor - FULL FOR SUMMER 2010
Bowfort counsellors lead groups of campers aged 6-13 who come to camp for 6-day sessions. Counsellors also work with our Family Camp. These staff enthusiastically lead day-campers and residential campers in all activities and care for the individual and group needs of the children. All residential camp groups participate in an overnight outtrip - outtripping experience is beneficial. A flatwater paddling certification is also valuable. Mistaya Counsellor - FULL FOR SUMMER 2010
The Mistaya section is for campers aged 10-11 who come to camp for 13-day sessions. Mistaya Counsellors energetically lead all camp activities and games, as well as a three-day backpacking trip. As Mistaya campers are young and often new to camp, counsellors are attentive to individual and group challenges and successes. Outtripping experience and a flatwater paddling certification are very beneficial to this position. Mistaya staff must have a Wilderness First Aid (minimum 24 hour course) and CPR 'C' certification. Kananaskin Counsellor - FULL FOR FEMALE STAFF FOR SUMMER 2010
Kananaskin counsellors are co-leaders for groups of 12 and 13 year old campers who come to camp for 13-days. Campers who are 12 years old will participate in a 3-day backpacking trip, a day-long horse program, and a day-long river canoe experience. Kananaskins who are 13 years old choose between a 4-day hike, a 4-day canoe trip, or a 3-day horse program at Outpost. Counsellors are paired with a canoe or hike specialist for those camps. Kananaskin counsellors also lead all camp activities and games. All Kananaskin staff must have a Wilderness First Aid (minimum 24 hour course) and CPR 'C' certification, as well as the Camp Chief Hector YMCA Canoe certification (or equivalent). Kananaskin Hike or Canoe Specialist - FULL FOR FEMALE STAFF FOR SUMMER 2010
Kananaskin outtrip specialists have significant outtripping experience - either in backpacking trips in the Rocky Mountains leading river canoe trips. Canoe specialists have a Paddle Alberta Level 1 Tandem Moving Water Instructor certification (or equivalent), and hiking specialists will have completed a backpacking certification. With input from their counselling partners, these staff members are in charge of the trip-specific risk and group management decisions while on trip. Kananaskin specialists co-lead groups of 13 year old campers who come to camp for 13 days, and are involved in all camp activities. Outpost Pioneer Counsellor (Hike and Horse) - FULL FOR SUMMER 2010
Outpost Pioneer programs are for 15 year old youth who come to camp for 13-day sessions. The program alternates each session between the hike option (7 or 8-day backpacking trip in the Yaha Tinda area) and the horse/hike option (5-day backpacking trip in the Outpost area and a 4-day horse experience). Outpost Pioneer staff have significant experience leading multi-day backpacking trips with youth and will complete a backpacking course. Experience working with horses is also valuable. Waterfront Staff - FULL FOR SUMMER 2010
Our waterfront staff facilitate the daily operations on Chilver Lake. Waterfront staff work with counsellors to teach campers various canoeing skills, waterfront safety, proper gear usage and care, voyageur canoeing and supervise waterfront games, activities and swimming. A Standard First Aid certification is required along with a Waterfront Canoe Instructor certification. An NLS certification and experience with leading, teaching and supervising are an asset. Craft Staff - FULL FOR SUMMER 2010
Our various crafts programs are an integral part of our on-site programming. The Arts and Crafts team facilitates creative sessions that focus on learning artistic skills and completing a useful finished product. Arts and crafts projects include sketching and painting, soap making, crocheting, making mini pillows, and bead work. The Camp Craft team engage campers in our natural history with hands-on and exciting skills. Activities that the camp craft staff lead include fire-making, atl-atl throwing, walking stick carving, making natural tea, harvesting edible wilds, and baking outtrip foods such as bannock. The Performing Arts team engage campers in theatre sports, productions, drama games and improvisation activities. At the end of each session, the performing arts instructors arrange for campers to perform at our closing ceremony - Grand Council. All craft team members must have a Standard First Aid and CPR 'C' certification and a significant amount of experience in one of these specific fields. Outtripping Staff and Drivers - STILL LOOKING FOR DRIVERS OVER THE AGE OF 21 WITH CLEAN DRIVING RECORDS
The Outtripping Centre is the hub of packing for outtrips and cleaning up after wards. Staff members in this area help groups to find the right gear and help with packing their food and cleaning. Outtripping staff members re-inventory equipment and food, and maintain a work-site the reflects professional food-safe practices and professional driving standards. Drivers are needed to shuttle groups to and from their trip destinations. Outtripping staff must have a Standard First Aid and CPR 'C' certification.
