Camp Road Camp Chief Hector YMCA is located just one-hour west of Calgary on a beautiful 1000-acre site in the Bow Valley. This road will take you past the Bowfort end of camp, past our Outripping Centre and end at Hector Lodge - where our virtual tour begins.
		Hector Lodge Exterior Refurbished in 2005, Hector Lodge serves as the dining hall and indoor meeting area for Hector Spring School and ROPES programs in the spring, and summer camp programming during the summer months.
		Hector Lodge lnterior Hector Lodge features a fully staffed kitchen, indoor washroom facilities and a cozy fireplace.  It is our largest day use facility.  Hector Lodge can accommodate meetings, weddings and special events. Hector Lodge seats up to 450 individuals.
		Wash Shack Exterior The Hector end Wash Shack is located just to the North of Hector Lodge.  The Wash Shack is used throughout the spring and summer months as a washroom and shower facility.
		Wash Shack Interior The Wash Shack contains six bathroom stalls and a large shower room.  The shelving unit is used to store scented items like shampoo, deodorant, toothpaste and soap so that wildlife cannot access them.
		Eagle Lodge This lodge features an old stone fireplace and can be used as a quaint meeting facility.  Eagle Lodge is used as an indoor campfire facility for rainy days during outdoor school and summer seasons.
		Outhouse Camp Chief Hector YMCA is home to twenty outhouses scattered throughout the property.  All outhouses have a hand sanitizer dispenser located right outside the door.
		Hector Health Centre Exterior Hector Health Centre is where teachers stay during outdoor school in the spring, and where campers go when they are feeling under the weather in the summer. This building can also be rented to private groups September through June.
		Hector Health Centre Interior This facility has all the amenities that groups may need including a full kitchen, laundry facilities, four bathrooms, seven bedrooms and a meeting area/family room.
		Hector Health Centre Interior Groups can bring food to prepare their own homemade meals.  All dishware and cookware come included in rentals.
		Hector Health Centre Interior The bedrooms are a combination of single beds and bunk beds spread throughout the two stories. The Hector Health Centre sleeps 16. Guests provide their own bedding.
		Hector Tower This adventure tower was generously donated by the Alberta Treasury Branch in 2007 and is primarily used in our summer camp programming.
		Waterfront Camp Chief Hector YMCA is home to Chilver Lake and two magnificent waterfront areas that are used for swimming, canoeing and salamander viewing.
		Outripping Centre Our Outripping Centre is the starting and ending point for all of our summer trips.  Route and menu planning, and gear and food packing sessions all take place at this facility. The Outripping Centre is also used for the ROPES program in the spring season.
		Bowfort Lodge Exterior Open year-round, Bowfort Lodge is the dining hall and indoor meeting space for outdoor programs, specialty groups, school programs, and six-day summer camps, day camps and Family Camps. Bowfort Lodge seats up to 150 individuals.
		Bowfort Lodge Interior Bowfort Lodge has a full kitchen, fireplace and meeting area, and is home to Camp Chief Hector YMCA's administrative offices.
		Tipi Exterior Our twenty-eight-foot canvas tipis sleep eight campers and two staff in bunk beds with mattresses. Tipis are the primary accommodation for campers in the spring and summer months.
		Tipi Interior The fire pit in the centre adds to the camp atmosphere and provides extra warmth on chilly nights.  All tipis are equipped with a full water bucket, a fire grate and a fire extinguisher.
		Wash Stand Each tipi section has a wash stand for campers to wash their hands, face and teeth after they wake up each morning and before they go to bed each night.
		High Ropes The high ropes course is a chance to take adventure to new heights! All elements are designed with  team building in mind and provide a role for anyone in the group who wishes to participate.
		High Ropes The high elements consist of beams, poles, platforms, wires, and ropes 40 to 70 feet above the ground.
		Team Swing and Flying Squirrel The Team Swing is an exhilerating swing experience from a height that each participant is comfortable with - up to 60 feet. The Flying Squirrel is an element that gives each participant the opportunity to be lifted into the air on a static line by the other members of the group.
		Low Ropes Our low ropes course consists of elements anywhere from 1 to 4 feet off the ground. Participants traverse these elements, including clatter bridges, ropes, swings and tire crossings, in groups of three.
		Challenge Course Teams of campers take on the Challenge Course to learn about teamwork and trust.  Participants have the opportunity to build upon the lessons of each experience as they go through the various Challenge Course elements.
		Climbing Tower Camp Chief Hector YMCA's outdoor climbing tower allows campers and other visitors to test their limits, challenge themselves, and be amazed by what they can accomplish.
		Long House Exterior The Long House is camp's largest overnight facility and is used primarily for school programs, weekend programs and private facility rentals year-round.
		Long House Interior The Long House has 13 bedrooms with two bunkbeds in each.  There is also one large room at the front of the building that sleeps 12. The Long House has a total sleeping capacity of 64. Guests provide their own bedding.
		Long House Interior The Long House has two washrooms, each with three toilets, two sinks and two showers.
		Archery and Atlatl Range Campers learn new skills, have fun and develop hand-eye coordination at the various archery and atlatl ranges that we have on-site.
		Corrals The corrals are where groups arrive to learn how to groom and saddle, learn the basics of horsemanship and get to know their horses. Camp Chief Hector YMCA keeps around 100 horses at its main site and at the Outpost site.
		Horses Depending on their program, campers may ride in the arena, on trails, or even take part in a camp rodeo! Camp Chief Hector YMCA also has Farm Friends in the summer months so campers can interact and play with goats and sheep.
		Pool Exterior Each tipi group in the summer season can sign up to go to a session at the pool.  The pool is a safe and fun place to play games and cool off on hot summer days. A certified lifeguard is always present while the pool is in use.
		Pool Interior The enclosed swimming pool is used to test campers' swimming skills before they head out on canoe trips. The pool also has washroom and shower facilities.
		Family Cabin The Family Cabin is used as home base for the animal game during the outdoor school seasons and as the Arts and Crafts Centre during the summer season and Family Camp.
		Bowfort Health Centre Exterior Also known as Knowplace, the Bowfort Health Centre is ideal for small groups.  It features seven rooms, each with a single bunk bed, and two washrooms with showers. This building is used primarily as teacher accommodation during the outdoor school seasons and as the Health Centre during the summer season.
		Bowfort Health Centre Interior The Bowfort Health Centre has a small kitchen and meeting area, equipped with a microwave and small fridge. Bowfort Health Centre has a sleeping capacity of 14. Guests provide their own bedding.
		Diamond Cross and EY Clusters Exterior The Clusters are located just to the west of Bowfort Lodge.  These buildings are primarily used for outdoor school groups, weekend programs and with younger campers in the summer months.
		Diamond Cross and EY Clusters Interior The Clusters feature three rooms of seven bunk beds and a large central common area for games and socializing. Each building sleeps 42. Guests provide their own bedding.
		Diamond Cross and EY Clusters Interior Each Cluster has two washrooms, each with two toilets, two showers and two sinks.
		Old Lodge Exterior One of the original buildings on our site, this rustic lodge features an old stone fireplace and is the perfect location for small meetings and activities.  It is located just north of Bowfort Lodge.
		Old Lodge Interior The Old Lodge is primarily used as an indoor programming facility for outdoor school and summer seasons.
		Outpost Site Camp Chief Hector YMCA's Outpost site is located in the Yaha Tinda region of the Rocky Mountains 200km northwest of Camp Chief Hector YMCA.  It is situated along the upper Red Deer River where grasslands support elk, bighorn sheep, wolves and grizzly bears. Campers stay in tipis and enjoy a variety of activities in and around this site.
