YMCA Community Recreation
The Community Recreation Program runs once per week at Calgary elementary schools. After school, Grade 4, 5 and 6 students participate in recreational activities that promote teamwork, social and physical skills and enjoy a healthy snack.
Recreation Mentoring
YMCA Calgary has partnered with Big Brothers & Big Sisters of Calgary and Area as part of the Recreation Mentoring Program.
With Recreation Mentoring, boys and girls ages six to 12 and their adult volunteer mentors take part in sports and recreation activities at a YMCA Calgary facility at no cost for the duration of the mentoring match.
To learn more about this program, please contact Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Calgary and Area.
Learning Village
YMCA Calgary has partnered with the Calgary Children’s Initiative to form the Learning Village, a community where schools are the centre of a collaborative community. Designed to assist families and school-aged children, the Learning Village provides education, health, social, recreation and cultural services in fours schools around the city. Through this collaboration, YMCA Calgary offers programs in various elementary schools that help children develop community connections and build self esteem.
New Roads
New Roads is a partnership between YMCA Calgary, Hull Child and Family Services and the City of Calgary Community and Neighbourhood Services. It is an innovative program for kids seven to 11 years of age who engage in pre-criminal behaviour or are at risk of doing so.
By intervening early with children and their families, the New Roads program helps to reduce criminal behaviour and divert children from becoming entangled in the Justice or Child Welfare systems. Parents must commit to being involved in the program with their children.
To make a referral or for more information, please contact the New Roads program at (403) 274-2297.
