Aboriginal Youth Hoops
Aboriginal Youth Hoops is a free 3-on-3 basketball tournament for Aboriginal youth ages 16-30. This is the tournament's 9th year, and will be hosted at Shaw Millenium Park on June 22nd at 9am. It is being organized in partnership with the Aboriginal Awareness Week Family Day Pow Wow Festival, and the winners of the tournament will be announced at the Pow Wow.
Teams must be four players maximum and have at least one member of the opposite sex. You can register online using the pdf form below. Please send the registration form to Morgan at mretzer@calgary.ymca.ca no later than June 19. All players will receive a t-shirt and lunch. There are prizes and Jersey's for winners and MVPs.

Aboriginal Buddies
In this cultural discovery program, Aboriginal elementary school students meet twice a week to learn about Aboriginal culture and traditions, experience support and friendship and get help with school work. There is no fee to participate in this program.

Aboriginal junior high school students learn leadership and mentorship skills, receive educational support, learn traditional teachings and meet professionals from the Aboriginal community. Once a week, they visit the Aboriginal Buddies program and put their mentorship and leadership skills into action. There is no fee to participate in this program.

This leadership program is for Aboriginal high school aged youth in the City of Calgary. Why Y7G? 'Legend has it the Elders who predicted the arrival of the Europeans and the near destruction of our people also foretold the rebirth of the Aboriginal people seven lifetimes after Columbus. We are the seventh generation.'

The program runs at Saddletowne YMCA every Wednesday from 4:30-6:30pm; new participant intake occurs each October. There is no fee to take part in this program and participants receive free YMCA membership that can be used at YMCAs across Canada. Drop-in recreational activities are offered to Aboriginal youth (ages 13 to 30) at various YMCA facilities. This program promotes active sportsmanship and community involvement. Activities include basketball, dancing, floor hockey and more. Programs are offered on a drop-in basis at Eau Claire YMCA on Tuesday evenings and at Saddletowne YMCA on Thursday evenings. Drum and Dance is a weekly class that teaches pow wow dance styles, drumming and pow wow culture and traditions. Run on a drop-in basis. Open to people of all ages and skill levels.

Aboriginal Summer Day Camps
These free two-week outdoor summer day camps for Aboriginal children, offered alongside YMCA Day Camps, help build cultural resiliency and identity. Activities include outdoor aquatics, cultural crafts and games and traditional drum and dance. There is no fee to participate in this program.
